Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

1926-2022

As you will have seen, Buckingham Palace has announced that Her Majesty the Queen has died. The Rt Revd Dr Guli Francis-Dehqani, the Bishop of Chelmsford has expressed her great sadness at the news. Bishop Guli said:

“My thoughts and prayers, and those of everyone in the Diocese of Chelmsford, are with the Royal Family, our nation and commonwealth. At this time of great sadness, we remember with profound gratitude Her Majesty the Queen’s contribution as monarch. Her reign included times of great joy and celebration but also many challenges. It has been a time of unprecedented change for this nation and the world but throughout, Her Majesty’s faith in God and extraordinary sense of duty helped to guide her. As we mourn Her Majesty’s death, we give thanks to God for her life, her faith and her exceptional devotion to her duty as monarch. Many across our Diocese will want to pay their own personal tributes and we will provide further details about how people can do this shortly.”

Pattern of Worship

From 1 May 2022, we will be alternating our Sunday Services which will take place at 10am. There are craft activities for children during our services, which are mainly unsupervised. Refreshments will be served after the service, providing a time to chat and catch up with each other.

First and Third Sunday of the Month: Morning Worship
This is a more informal service with prayer, discussion and music, there may be a short reflection, a meditation or a Bible study.

Second and Fourth Sunday of the Month: Holy Communion
This is a service with hymns, using Common Worship liturgy and with a sermon.

Fifth Sunday of the Month: We join with other churches across South West Chelmsford for a service together.
This rotates around the churches and details can be found in the calendar and newsletter.

Daily Hope

Daily Hope offers music, prayers and reflections as well as full Worship services from the Church of England at the end of a telephone line.

The line – available 24 hrs a day on 0800 804 8044 – has been set up particularly with those unable to join online church services during the period of restrictions in mind.

Covid-19 Guidance

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement at the end of January 2022, the PCC have now decided that it is a personal choice if you would like to wear your masks inside the Church but would ask you to be aware and respect others who may want to continue wearing masks and maintain social distancing. We will continue to administer Communion in two kinds with the Priest intincting.

Edward Bear is Back!

Wednesdays during Term Time, 1.15-2.30pm

We are so, so excited to announce the return of Edward Bear!

Our Baby and Toddler group has been supporting families in Moulsham Lodge for decades but like everyone else we had to close our doors in March 2020.

Those doors are now wide open and Edward Bear loves to see his old friends again and to have fun making new ones! No booking required, just turn up and join in.

Please check out our dedicated Edward Bear & Toddler Group page for more information.

Remember Me

In honour of the thousands who have lost their lives in the UK to coronavirus, a new online memorial has been launched so that people can pay their tributes. Family, friends and carers of those who have died can submit the name and photograph of their loved one, along with a short message in their memory, through the Remember Me website. His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has shown his support for the unique project, recording a special message in honour of the launch.

If you wish to make a contribution in honour of a loved one, please visit the website:

Online Giving

Across the nation, indeed across the world, people and organisations have suffered financially because of the Covid-19 pandemic; St. Luke’s Church amongst them. We are working hard to protect our financial future.

We want our building – the church and the halls – to continue to be at the centre of our community, as a resource for so many groups and clubs, for the young and not so young. We want to be able to continue to provide services and prayer as well as offering pastoral care to people who are struggling spiritually, emotionally and physically.

Some of you are already regularly supporting the work of the church and we are so grateful to you. If you feel that you could support St. Luke’s financially, please consider making an online donation – and gift aiding your donation if you are a taxpayer. If you feel able to give a regular monthly donation, please contact us by phone or email.

Your donation will help steer us through this difficult time and ensure that St. Luke’s is here to live out the vision to ‘Love, Grow and Serve’ for many years to come.

A Prayer for Our Future

St Luke’s is now without a Priest-in-Charge and as our Parochial Church Council (PCC) works out our way forward, please use this prayer during your personal prayer time:

God of our plans and futures,
guide us as we dwell in this time of vacancy.
Help us to work together,
to love, grow and serve each other;
and to share the responsibility
of being your light in our community.
We turn to your love,
comfort and peace
as we journey onwards in our faith,
becoming the people you desire us to be.
In the name of Jesus Christ,
our Lord and Saviour.
Amen
